The Kingdom: Saul, David, and Solomon

It
was fun for me to have a sermon that touched on the life of each one of these
three kings. 1 & 2 Samuel and
1 Kings are so rich with theological truth that this series was truly a
blessing for us as pastors as well as for our congregation. Of these three sermons I believe my
last sermon on Solomon is my favorite.
Solomon in the early chapters of 1 Kings gives us such a wonderful
picture of Christ that it is hard not to just fall down and worship as you read
the narrative that has been recorded for us in scripture.
In
the lives of each of these kings we see ourselves and the burden of our
humanity, the sovereignty of God interacting with the human will, grace and
forgiveness, consequence and punishment, promise and fulfillment, sin and
righteousness, blessing and cursing, rebellion and dominion, and shadows of the
coming King, Christ. These
narratives are so powerful, filled with emotion, contrasts, irony, and truth,
that they arrest the mind and pierce the heart. If you have the eyes to see and the ears to hear, the lives
of these kings teach us about God and what God desires of us as faithful
servants that follow Him.
If
the early history of the kingdom of Israel, during the reigns of Saul, David,
and Solomon, is a blind spot in your Biblical understanding I highly encourage
you to listen to the entire series HERE.
I enjoyed preparing and preaching the three sermons I had the
opportunity to preach in this series and offer them to you below for your
teaching and enjoyment. As always
I love to hear your feedback.
Enjoy!
